The Magic of Tarot for Everyday Choices

It’s both hard and a relief to send your kid off into the transitional world of college. We won’t be there for them in the same way ever again, but will be supporting them in a new way, and also, they have launched!
The saving grace, for me, when I said goodbye to my stepson as he went off to an entire other state for college without us, was that it wasn’t real life yet, and he still had a few years to get used to things out there while in an environment that would be supporting his success.
A fun way to help your new college students thrive during this time is with the gift of an easy-to-use Tarot deck like the SparkTarot®. A quick three card reading can help point the way when those little decisions start to overwhelm.
Making Decisions
One of the hardest things about learning to make decisions is worrying that they are all or nothing and they will be set in stone. And to be sure, sometimes, once you decide something, it can seem that way. Should I take that poli sci class? Yes, ok (signs up, goes to class).
Tarot can help you slow down and consider your decisions. For example, if you do a reading about whether or not to take that poli sci class, you might simply ask, should I take the class? But since the Tarot doesn’t have cards for yes or no, you’re going to have to think about how to ask and then you’ll have to interpret.
When you begin to interpret the cards, your brain will use all the information you already have about what the answer is for you to make that interpretation, and you are learning to slow down and consider your decisions. This process will lead you to your own knowing about what you want to do.
For a reading about the poli sci class, you might more precisely ask: If I take this class, how will it impact my semester? Then look at the cards to see how you might feel: overwhelmed, relieved, empowered, etc.
All Tarot readings are a reflection of the current moment. They aren’t foretelling anything, or making joyful or dire predictions. They are helping you think and they are fun. And isn’t that what college (and life) is supposed to be about?
How To Get Started
If this idea intrigues you, find an easy-to-read deck (like SparkTarot, which also comes with a guidebook) and gift the deck to your college-bound student. Then, together, use the directions in the guidebook to enjoy a three- or five-card reading about a question they have now.
Remind them that the reading and outcomes are for fun and to help them think about things, and that a reading can also change based on circumstance and approach. The cards aren’t going to take away any choices or the chance to change their mind about anything.
You can even invite them to call or zoom to do a reading together later if anything comes up that asks for contemplation. You’ll be fostering in them a sense of support going forward that includes you, and goes beyond you.
You can always buy any number of decks on my website, but right now, I’m offering a special discount when you buy two SparkTarot® decks, one to give and one to keep. Use code: student at checkout for the discount.
