The first time I had my Tarot cards read, it was over thirty years ago in a Denny’s in Provo, Utah. I know, not very mystical. The reader was an acquaintance of mine who was living in his van.
I can’t remember how we met, only that I knew he was going to do a bad job reading my cards, and I was right — we were in a Denny’s for God’s sake. I don’t remember what he said but it was enough to send me over to Oracle cards for many years.
But one summer ten years later in 2002 when my then-husband and I were visiting Cape Cod, I wandered into a little herb shop. There, I saw a Tarot deck that called out to me.
It was a box set called The Beginners Guide to the Tarot, and included the Sherman-Caselli deck and a guidebook. I took it home and within a few months I was giving readings to friends with this deck.
It’s so important to use a resonant deck when reading Tarot. And when giving a reading, to see how to approach a situation with action, not passively. After all, you are in charge, not Tarot cards. But they can focus and guide you to act effectively.
When I was making my own deck, the SparkTarot®, I worried once in a while during the process that I might not like using it once it was done. But it’s the opposite — I love it and it’s the only deck I use now! Which makes sense :)
While I’m always available for an online reading, now that things have opened up again, I’m venturing back into more in-person offerings.
As such, I’ll be reading Tarot Saturday July 15, from 10am-12 noon at Petaluma Community Acupuncture, located on 21 Kentucky Street, Petaluma, California.
They have a lovely space in the window to enjoy a magical 20-minute Tarot reading on a drop-in basis. And their shop with all the herbal remedies, chocolates, crystals and books reminds me a little of that sweet herb shop in Cape Cod.
